Sailing
Dingle Harbour is a fine sheltered harbour with plenty of room for dinghy sailing. Dingle Sailing Centre offers excellent ISA approved dinghy sailing courses for adults and children, the Centre also offers powerboat courses and “Splash Club” for younger children duing the summer. The Centre has a variety of boats such as Otimist, Topper, RS Feva, Laser 1, Laser 2, Laser Stratos Keel, Topaz, Drascombe Lugger, etc. The highlight of the courses for children is when they sail out to the mouth of the harbour to see Fungi the Dolphin. Sailing sessions are usually held on Sunday mornings between 11 am and 2 pm. The club also offers powerboat courses. For further information visit Dingle Sailing Club.
Dingle Harbour has regularly hosted “La Solitaire du Figaro” sailing race in Dingle, where world class sailors take part in a single handed sailing race from France to Ireland, see La Solitaire du Figaro. The Club also hosts the biennial Dun Laoghaire to Dingle D2D yacht race, a 320 mile race down the east and south coast of Ireland into Dingle harbour.
Swimming
The long sandy beaches at Béal Bán (the White Strand) and Wine Strand on the shores of Smerwick Harbour are ideal for swimming. Smerwick Harbour is also popular for fishing, kayaking, wind surfing and dinghy sailing.
Horse racing is held on Béal Bán on the first weekend in May (weather permitting). A regatta, featuring traditional naomhógs or currachs, is held on the harbour during August each year at Baile na nGall (Ballydavid).
Ventry is another fine sandy beach for swimming fishing, kayaking, windsurfing and sailing.
Because of strong under currents the beautiful sandy beaches at Clogher and Coomenole are not safe for swimming.
Kayaking
There are many great locations for kayaking around the Dingle Peninsula. If you don’t have your own kayak with you, you can always try sea kayaking with IrishAdventures.net or rent a Sit-on-top kayak at Jamie Knox Watersports
Windsurfing Courses
Windsurfing lessons for all levels are available at Jamie Knox Watersports in Castlegregory. Some speed sailors have achieved over 40 knots windsurfing in the waters off Castlegregory. Jamie also offers surfing and stand up paddle boarding (SUP) as well as summer camps for kids.
